When Kolton was just eight months old, he collapsed in the arms of his mom while
having a seizure. Following a series of visits with doctors and specialists, his parents
received news no parent wants to hear. Kolten had been diagnosed with microcephaly,
cerebral palsy and a seizure disorder. Microcephaly is a rare neurological condition in
which an infant's head is significantly smaller than the heads of other children of the
same age and sex. It is usually the result of the brain developing abnormally in the
womb.
This meant Kolten would be profoundly delayed, both mentally and physically.
Kolton was in and out of the hospital a lot in 2013 and the family is faced with constant
medical expenses. The family had been trying to remodel one of the bathrooms in their
Little Elm, Texas home for handicap accessibility for several years but could not raise the
money. Roger White (Kolten's dad) began working as a project manager for an
architectural sheet metal company in 2001. Shortly after he began, he started taking
safety training courses and in 2003 became an OSHA Outreach Trainer for the
construction industry. In 2010 he was laid off during the recession as his company
downsized. A former carpenter, Roger sought employment in the residential market but
new construction starts were severely down and builders weren't hiring.
Searching online for assistance, Lisa found information about the Joseph Groh
foundation. Thanks to all your donations, the foundation was able to make the
families wish come true.
After a year of unsuccessfully finding gainful full-time work, Roger found employment

Currently, Roger is working as the safety program country manager for a department of
state construction contractor in Haiti. Projects include the construction of two police
stations and a medical center in Port-au-Prince. He is looking forward to coming home in
March, 2014 and spending time with his wife Lisa and their three children.
This was the most expensive remodeling project the foundation has taken on to date,
and we would like to acknowledge and thank friend of the foundation Horizon
Plumbing of Arlington, Texas! They donated a new toilet, vanity and shower valves
for this project.
