Tom's Story
Tom's story is a familiar one. Like many who grew up in the trades, Tom followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. At the age of 19, he took the construction licensing exam for the Denver building department and became the youngest applicant to date to have passed that examination. He was on his way. Along with his father he built custom homes and worked on many commercial projects. Seeking to help others less fortunate, he and his father worked with the Denver Urban Renewal Authority to rehab and remodel homes for lower income families. He went on to work for the Rocky Flats Nuclear Test Plant in Golden, Colorado as a construction manager. Later, he helped with reclamation and closure of the site.
In 2013, Tom became very ill however with liver cancer and end-stage liver disease.
Fortunate to receive a transplant, an infection shortly thereafter required a lumbar puncture which resulted in paralysis from the waist down. What followed was an extensive rehabilitation at Craig Hospital in Inglewood, Colorado, one of the premier spinal cord rehabilitation facilities in the nation. There, he learned to live life as a
Thanks to our many supporters, the foundation was able to fund the driving controls sought by Tom and his family. Among other things, Tom intends to use these driving controls to deliver meals to persons in need in conjunction with his church.
