Donald Hert lived an active life in the Charlotte, North Carolina area. He worked
for Randolph Restoration in Trinity,NC where he helped restore homes and
businesses from fire, smoke and water damage. “Part of my job included cleaning
out the damage and replacing walls, housing frames, roofing, wiring etc.,” he said.
“I had a good job with good money, and I thought I would retire from that,” he
remembers.
En route to work on September 27, 2013, Donald was involved in a single car collision.
As a result, Donald is now a quadriplegic, paralyzed at the C6/C7 level. In the blink
of an eye, Donald couldn’t walk, he couldn’t use his hands and he couldn’t work. As
with virtually all persons to whom this happens, Donald also found that his financial
health had suffered a life altering change as well. In the fall of 2017, Donald and his
wife scoured the Internet in search of financial assistance. Donald had just had
surgery for a pressure sore. They learned from their doctors that a standing frame could not only help relieve pressure, but would also be good for his bones, cardiac
health and a number of other conditions. The foundation worked with Donald and
his doctor to obtain a medical evaluation and clearance for the standing frame.
Following that, the foundation worked with the Greensboro office of Nu-Motion, a
wheelchair and mobility equipment company to obtain a customized standing frame
for Donald.
