Louis’s Story

Louis Cappucci of Revere, Massachusetts worked at Boston University for 40 years in the heating/plumbing maintenance department. During the last 20 years, he was the chief of the heating department where they had responsibility for all of the college buildings at BU.

Louis developed kidney cancer in 1998. During covid, he had to start dialysis and then developed congestive heart failure, all of which recently led to right foot amputation!

The amputation led to an urgent need for a ramp to get into/out of his home. In addition, it also created an immediate need to get rid of the old claw bathtub. The ramp was most important because Louis was being released from the hospital, and without it would have to be diverted to a nursing home until he could get back in his home. Older, existing structures in older neighborhoods can pose difficulty getting a ramp with the proper run/rise rate for safety, as you might tell from the drawing of the ramp below. At any rate, your generosity allowed us to respond immediately to the need and we were able to get a ramp in and get Louis home without going to a nursing home.
