Josh Hicks with his portable oxygen tank
Josh was self-employed as Josh Hicks Handyman Services. He remodeled homes, built decks, porches, stairs, and did painting and trim work. Also did landscaping work, interior painting and plumbing work. When you live in Monroe, Georgia you need to be proficient at many things, because it is a rural town of about 15,000 people halfway between Atlanta and Athens. About 4 years ago Josh began to experience issues with his kidney.
When the vein to the kidney collapsed, he went into kidney failure!
That quickly resulted in having to go on dialysis and being put on a transplant list. That quickly eroded his financial situation and he had to move in with his sister. He went on Medicaid and supplemental security income (SSI) because he can no longer work. He had to go on oxygen, which restricted him from leaving the house. He couldn’t have left anyway as it is old vehicle finally succumbed to the rigors of the work years Josh had put on it. Josh’s sister found our foundation through an online search, and submitted for a portable oxygen unit and help with a vehicle.
Once again, our terrific donors came together for a tradesman in need!
We were able to get Josh set up on a portable oxygen tank that would allow him to leave the house. We also were able to find a pickup truck that would give him freedom of mobility. A picture of Josh with his truck is shown below.
